Following acquisition, United Medical Systems appoints new president

United Medical Systems, a Westborough-based provider of mobile urology services to hospitals, has named Matthew Gattuso as the company’s new president.

The change in the executive suite comes after New York-based MGG Investment Group in June helped finance an acquisition of United Medical Systems by MGG’s platform Access & Integrated Practice Holdings.

Gattuso comes to United Medical Systems from Virginia-based healthcare logistics and supply company Owens & Minor, where he served as senior vice president and commercial sales leader, according to the Monday press release announcing his hire.

Prior to that, he served as the president of the infection prevention business unit at Professional Disposables, a New York-based healthcare goods manufacturer. He has previous experience with Ireland-based Covidien and Hartford-based Aetna US Healthcare. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from UMass Amherst.

“Matthew is a respected, veteran executive who, throughout his career, has demonstrated an ability to drive business growth while maintaining exceptionally high levels of service to customers and other stakeholders,” Dale Stohr, managing director of MGG Investment Group, UMS’ financing partner, said in the Monday press release. “His wealth of healthcare and management expertise will be invaluable as UMS continues to expand and meet the needs of its physician partners and their patients.”

Gattuso replaces Michael Martin as the company’s president. Martin was appointed to the role in September 2021 and still held the role when MGG financed an acquisition in June. United Medical Services didn’t specify to WBJ whether Martin is still with the company.

United Medical Services was founded in 1998. The company’s transportable technology allows hospitals to offer urology services without the associated costs of maintaining a full-time urology program, according to UMS’ website.
