Framingham State gets $1.5M grant for teacher training

File West Hall at Framingham State. The university is starting a program this month to train teachers in the Framingham, Milford and Waltham school districts.

Framingham State University has received a $1.5-million grant to train 50 area teachers on teaching students English as a second language.

The program, which will last five years starting this month, will allow public-school teachers in Framingham, Milford and Waltham to enroll in Framingham's master's in education program with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language.

The university announced the funding from the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday. It marks the second time Framingham State has received a federal grant to help educators teach a growing population of students learning English.

Through the program, teachers will share what they learn with their colleagues in other districts and offer workshops to parents of English language learners about the American school system.
