Greater Worcester nonprofits will soon receive a helping hand, as the Greater Worcester Community Foundation is relaunching full programing from its Nonprofit Support Center with a $1-million investment over the next three years.

First established in 1999, the support center reduced its offerings in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic but is now being reinvigorated with new funds to allow for an increase in programming and support offered by GWCF, according to a Wednesday press release from the foundation.

“The Nonprofit Support Center's relaunch signifies our deep commitment to empowering nonprofits with the tools, resources, and networks they need to thrive,” Pete Dunn, GWCF president and CEO, said in the press release. “We look forward to working with organizations, stakeholders, and the wider community to advance a more effective and resilient nonprofit sector.”

The foundation’s Nonprofit Effectiveness Grants program will be opened on March 1, offering area nonprofits with financial resources to help fulfill their missions.

The foundation awarded $122,000 to 19 nonprofits in 2023, including an $7,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester for its Train the Trainers Leadership Development program, and an $8,000 grant to Worcester Youth Cooperatives to help the organization build capacity and financial sustainability, according to GWCF’s website.

The foundation is launching a new Institute for Trustees program, featuring a free, virtual nonprofit capacity-building conference for nonprofit leaders and board members, which will offer 19 workshops over a six-week span covering a variety of nonprofit-related topics.

GWCF is entering the second year of its partnership with Resilia, a Louisiana-based organization offering support to growing nonprofits. The foundation will invite 25 nonprofits to access tools and resources offered by Resilia, with an emphasis on grassroots organizations led by or servicing people of color.

GWCF will celebrate the relaunch of its full line of services for nonprofits with a networking celebration on March 5 at the foundation’s new offices at 1 Mercantile St.
