Seabra Foods, a New Jersey-based international grocer specializing in items from Brazil and Portugal, is opening a store at 333 Pleasant St. in Worcester.
Joining another Seabra Foods store in Framingham, this will be the firm’s second Central Massachusetts location. Seabra has additional Massachusetts locations in Attleboro and Fall River, part of an 18-store portfolio with locations in New Jersey and Florida.
Seabra Foods was founded in 1967 by Portuguese immigrants, who expanded the company’s single location into a larger chain of grocery stores with the help of their children, according to Seabra Food’s website. In addition to offering products from Brazil and Portugal, Seabra offers groceries and household products from countries including Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, and Spain.
Formerly owned by the Mount Zion Christian Church, 333 Pleasant St. was purchased by Capital Property Investments of Worcester in 2018 for $600,000, according to City of Worcester property records. The building was first constructed in 1918.
333 Pleasant St. has since been converted into commercial units, with Seabra Foods planning to occupy suites 4-6 in the building, according to the agenda for the upcoming July 24 Worcester License Commission meeting, where the company will request a package store malt & wine license.
