Less than a week before Opening Day, WooSox single-game ticket go on sale

As Tuesday's Opening Day for the new Polar Park baseball stadium approaches, the Worcester Red Sox have said they will put single-game tickets on sale for the first time starting Friday afternoon, making about 200 tickets available for each of the first 12 games.

The WooSox, which have pre-sold about 2,100 season tickets, were holding off on putting single-game tickets on sale while they waited to see how many fans would be allowed in the 9,508-capacity stadium due to the state-imposed gathering restrictions, which are attempting to curb the spread of the coronavirus. On April 27, Gov. Charlie Baker announced he was easing the restrictions, which now allow for the WooSox to have 2,377 fans in attendance.

For the first 12 home games, the WooSox will have a total of 2,500 tickets available. After that, the team will wait to see if the restrictions are relaxed further, and then they will put more tickets on sale.

Opening Day on Tuesday marks a three-year milestone in the team's move from Pawtucket, R.I., which it announced it was leaving in August 2018 for the 2021 season. The quick timetable to build a public baseball stadium in the Canal District led costs for the project to rise to $160 million.

The WooSox are the last eligible team in the in the 20-team Triple-A East league to put tickets on sale. The Buffalo Bisons haven't put tickets on sale yet, but that team had to vacate its stadium so its major league parent club, the Toronto Blue Jays, can play their games in Buffalo.

The WooSox single-game tickets go on sale for members of the Worcester Red Sox Booster Club at 2 p.m. Friday on WooSox.com. The club is free to join. The tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The team is offering $9 general admission tickets to everyone, and $8 general admission tickets for children, students, active members of the military, and seniors. Other ticket options range up to $27, the highest for the home plate field box seats. The team also is still selling half-season ticket packages.

Tickets purchased online carry a $2.50 convenience fee, while most of those purchased the day of the game have a $2 surcharge, with the exception of the general admission tickets.
