As of next week, the Templeton company that makes wrapping tissue, confetti for the Super Bowl and Hershey's Kiss paper strips should be done using fuel oil.
George Jones, president of Seaman Paper Co. of Massachusetts Inc., spoke about his company's wood-fueled boilers and other green initiatives at a panel put on yesterday by the Center for Democracy and Humanity at Mount Wachusett Community College.
Jones said the company already reduced its oil use by 63 percent by installing one of the boilers, and is now in the process of adding another one. By producing more steam than the company's production process requires, the boilers will be able to generate power as well as heat, he said.
The panel discussion, held at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, also featured Dave Burley, an environmental program specialist for Hannaford Supermarkets and Lisa Drake, natural resources senior manager at dairy manufacturer Stonyfield Farm. It was moderated by Robert Ansin, CEO of MassInnovation LLC.
