XL Batteries in Marlborough has added three new executives, including Michael Rubino, a CFO who has previously taken three companies public.

Rubino joins XL Batteries following a period of self-employment beginning in 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has formerly served as CFO of Desktop Metal in Burlington, Digital Lumens in Shrewsbury, A123 Systems in Waltham, and Sandial Systems in Rhode Island.

In addition to Rubino, XL Batteries has hired Seqwana Pryor as its executive vice president of chemical manufacturing and Meryl Mallery as its executive vice president of engineering, according to a Tuesday press release from the company. All three positions are newly created.

“Meryl, Seqwana, and Michael bring precisely the experience our company needs, in the exact areas in which we operate, and I couldn’t be more excited to have them on board,” Tom Sisto, CEO and co-founder of XL Batteries, said in the Tuesday press release. “Attracting executives of this caliber is a huge stamp of confidence in our organization, and their experience scaling similar technologies for global industry leaders will be instrumental in the next phase of our growth.”

XL Batteries works to provide low-cost, grid-scale batteries for use by grid operators, independent power producers, microgrids, and heavy industrial users.

The firm was originally founded in Brooklyn in 2019 but moved its headquarters to Marlborough in 2022, according to a May 2024 Facebook post from the Marlborough Economic Development Corp.
