NSTAR is spotlighting Cambridge-based Genzyme Inc. as the latest example of how it can help companies become more energy efficient while reducing environmental impact.
Through Boston-based NSTAR's Construction Solutions program, Genzyme replaced its chiller equipment at one of its Framingham facilities with high-effiency units. This reduced Genzyme's greenhouse gas emissions and lowered energy consumption by more than 3 million kilowatt hours a year.
NSTAR provided Genzyme with more than $500,000 in energy efficient incentives for the project. It swapped out 10 older chillers for three new chillers that provide cold water for air conditioning and manufacturing needs at three buildings.
The Construction Solutions program supplies financial and technical assistance for new commercial construction, renovation and time-sensitive equipment replacements.
