Ocean State Job Lot’s Westborough location is about to become one the big box’s largest stores as the Rhode Island-based discount retailer is set to complete an expansion projects to make the store 40,000 square feet.
Ocean State’s expansion will add 2,700 square feet of retail space to its site located at 180 Milk St., according to a Thursday press release. Ocean State anticipates completing the project by the end of September.
"We are pleased to offer our valued Westborough customers a bigger and better Job Lot,” said Evan Portno, director of asset management, real estate, said in the release. “As we continue to expand into new markets, we also want to ensure that our existing stores offer our customers an updated and enjoyable retail experience.”
The expansion will place the retailer’s Westborough site amongst the five largest out of the 176 Ocean State locations throughout 11 East Coast states.
Ocean State operates in 10 Central Massachusetts cities and towns, including in Athol, Gardner, Leominster, and Medway, according to its website.
In July, the retailer opened its 10th store in the region, located at 416 Southbridge St. in Auburn at the site of a previous Big Lots. The opening came after Ocean State purchased a former Big Lots location in Webster after acquiring its surrounding plaza for $14.5 million.
Established in 1977, Ocean State sells discounted products, including home goods, clothing, kitchen appliances, and lawn and garden products.
The retailer employs approximately 7,000 employees and generates more than $850 million in annual sales, according to the release.
