Partners rebranding as Mass General Brigham

Partners HealthCare is now Mass General Brigham, a brand anchored on the names of its two well-known hospitals.

The rebranding, which comes after operating for 25 years as Partners HealthCare, is a bid by the health care giant to build on the reputations of Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital and is based on feedback and market research.

"The overall aim of our strategy and our new name is to create the premier integrated health care system of the future, built on the strong reputations of our academic medical centers," president Anne Klibanski wrote in a letter to the company's 75,000 employees. "As we build both our system strategy and our new identity, we will focus on how we leverage the full range of capabilities of our world-class clinicians and staff at our academic medical centers, renowned specialty hospitals, our community hospitals and our community sites."

The recently merged Beth Israel Lahey Health rivals Partners in size and further consolidated the state's health care market.

The Partners Board of Directors approved the name change on Tuesday night.
