Health insurer Point32Health has named Patrick Gilligan as the Canton-based nonprofit’s new CEO, effective this past Monday.

Gilligan assumes his role leading the parent company of Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts Health Plan six months after Point32Health entered into a four-year contract agreement for all product lines of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, including Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Worcester Surgical Center, and MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick, according to the company’s website.

Gilligan comes to Point32Health having most recently served as partner at CWH Advisors, a Boston-based healthcare consulting firm, according to a June 2 press release from Point32Health.

"On behalf of the entire Point32Health organization, we are thrilled to welcome Pat as our new chief executive officer," Eileen Auen, executive chair of Point32Health's board of directors, said in the press release. “He is a proven leader and will help drive the changes needed to lead Point32Health through the unprecedented challenges the industry is facing. We are confident that Pat, supported by our senior leadership team, will take our organization forward to a successful future."

Gilligan succeeds Auen, who had served as interim CEO since Cain Hayes stepped down from the role in September, according to a Sept. 13 press release from Point32Health. Hayes currently works as Shift Technology, a Paris-based AI software company, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Previously, Gilligan has held a number of C-suite and executive leadership roles throughout the healthcare sector. He worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as the company’s chief commercial officer and executive vice president, and worked for two of its subsidiaries, serving as president of Indigo Insurance Services and as CEO of Zaffre Investments, both headquartered in Boston.

Prior to these roles, he served as senior vice president of health systems alliance at CVS Health.

Gilligan graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

"I look forward to working closely with Point32Health's strong leadership team and incredible colleagues to execute on our purpose and strategic vision. As we enter this important next chapter for our organization, we will position Point32Health to perform at its full potential and to drive growth. Further, we will strengthen our unwavering commitment to empowering healthier lives for our members and communities,” Gilligan said in the release.
