Worcester’s homeowners may stay in their homes for an average of 17 years, but it’s a different story for tenants who rent, according to Apartment List, the San Francisco online marketplace for renters.
The most recent Renter Migration Report, which analyzes the cities people are looking to call their new home, found more than half of the city’s tenants are looking to move.
At 43%, Boston is the top destination for Worcester apartment dwellers, Providence is the second most popular at 4.3%, and Norwich, Conn. comes up third at 4.2%.
On the flip side tenants in two New England cities and New York want to make Worcester home.
At 39%, Boston tenants topped the list of those who want to live in Worcester, followed by New York City at 15%, and 9% from Bridgeport, Conn.Â
Results are based on searches of Apartment List users occurring between June 1 and Dec. 31. For users who search in multiple locations, researchers consider the initial search location to be the primary one, the company said.
In November, a nationwide survey by Redfin, the national Seattle-based real estate brokerage, found Worcester ranked 10th when it comes to how long people stay in their houses, with an average of 17 years. That’s up from nine years a decade ago, according to researchers.
