Niche Hospitality Group, which operates several well-known Worcester eateries including Block 5, Bocado and Mezcal, will be operating a restaurant on the ground-floor of the Hadley-Burwick apartment buiding on Main Street.
Plans for the restaurant - to be called Bone, BBQ & Blues - were announced Thursday afternoon at a ribbon-cutting for the market- and cut-rate apartment building.
While Niche Hospitality will operate the eatery, it will be owned by two investors: Hal March, an architect with Fine Associates in Boston, and Mike Hurley. Both were involved in the design and renovation of the apartment building.
The apartments were developed by Dedham-based Economic Development Finance Corp. The for-profit company bought the building in 2005 and began the renovation project last May. The five-story building has been converted into 44 apartments and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Eric Kuczarski, manager of development for EDFC, announced the restaurant at the event, which was attended by several officials including City Manager Michael O'Brien and Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray.
The restaurant is expected to be around 200 seats. Niche Hospitality also recently opened The Citizen, a wine bar at 1 Exchange Place in downtown.
Before being abandoned by the David Burwick Furniture Co. in the early 1990s, the building was home to the Hadley Furniture Co. from its construction in 1923 until 1964, when Burwick bought the building and furniture business from Hadley.
