Headmaster Alex Zequeira will leave Saint John’s High School after the end of the 2023-24 school year.
“I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to the final 13 months of my time at the school continuing to focus on the growth and strategic vision set forth by our community,” Zequeira said in a Thursday press release from the Shrewsbury private institution. “I have no doubt that the future holds even greater achievements for this remarkable institution.”
Zequeira made the announcement in a meeting with faculty and staff, according to the press release.
The headmaster joined Saint John’s in 2016 and created the Br. Robert Treanor, CFX Middle School Division, opening the school to seventh and eighth graders. He published “Purpose, People, and Preparation: A Strategic Plan” for Saint John’s High School 2023-2028.
Prior to Saint John’s, Zequeira served as president of the Nativity School of Worcester, which he helped found as principal in 2003.
“We are fortunate and grateful to have had and continue to have a leader like Alex with tremendous expertise and an even-larger mission-forward outlook,” Christopher Creed, the chair of Saint John’s board of trustees, said in the press release. “Alex’s vision and dedication have propelled Saint John’s High School to new heights.”
The school’s board of trustees will begin a nationwide search for a new head of school.
Zequeira did not announce what his next steps are after his departure from Saint John’s in June 2024.
