Sepracor hires former Novartis, Glaxo execs

Marlborough-based drug maker Sepracor Inc. has hired four new executives from Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline.

Sepracor's most recognizable and most successful product is the sleep drug Lunesta.

The new executives are all focused on Sepracor's product and marketing efforts. Mark Iwicki was hired from Novartis to a new position at Sepracor, executive vice president and chief commercial officer. Jay Smith was also at Novartis before joining Sepracor as senior vice president of sales. Dean Giovanniello was made vice president of marketing. He was previously at GlaxoSmithKline and Thomas Hoover also came from GlaxoSmithKline to become Sepracor's vice president of new products planning.

The company said the new hires were part of an effort "to deliver enhanced performance and productivity across our commercial organization."

For the second quarter, the company reported revenue of $278 million, net income of $6.1 million and an operational loss of $3.6 million.
