Massachusetts coronavirus cases hit 4,257 on Saturday, jumping another 32% in one day, with a 33% rise in Worcester County to 291.

Worcester County also had an additional two reported deaths: a woman in her 50s with unknown existing conditions, and a man in his 80s with pre-existing conditions, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Deaths rose statewide by nine to 44, with six in Worcester County.

The state's tally a day earlier was 3,240 across the state and 219 in Worcester County. The city of Worcester itself has 55 as of Friday afternoon.

The new data released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues a rapid increase across the state that reflects both widespread cases across the state and rapidly increasing number of tests taking place. More than 35,000 people have been tested statewide, according to the Department of Public Health.

The newest data was released as Gov. Charlie Baker announced that a major disaster declaration from the federal government has made new federal disaster assistance available to the state. That includes reimbursement of 75% to local governments, state agencies and some private nonprofits for costs associated with the outbreak. The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health is also receiving funding for assisting those with psychological effects from the outbreak.

Nationwide cases have topped 115,000 as of Saturday afternoon, with more than 1,900 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Worldwide cases now total more than 652,000, including over 30,000 deaths.

It is not bad that Worcester only has 50 cases considering its population. God bless.
