Third week for falling jobless claims

The number of Americans filing for unemployment insurance for the first time during the week ended July 21 was 301,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week, and the third straight week of declines for initial unemployment claims, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The 4-week moving average was 308,500, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week's revised average.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ended July 14, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ended July 14 was 2,545,000, a decrease of 19,000 from the preceding week's revised level. The 4-week moving average was 2,555,500, an increase of 15,000 over the preceding week.
