TJX plans for office employees to work remotely heading into 2022

Retail parent company TJX Cos., headquartered in Framingham, will ask its U.S. office employees to work remotely for the last week of December and first week of January, the company confirmed Tuesday morning.

The decision comes amid what appears to be another holiday surge in coronavirus cases, which has left Central Massachusetts hospitals strapped for inpatient and intensive care beds. The decision applies to office workers, and not the company's in-store employees. TJX is the parent company for retailers like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods.

TJX expects its workers will be gathering with family and friends for holiday celebrations during the turn of the calendar year, the company said.

“We continue to monitor the evolution of COVID-19 and are committed to adjusting our health and safety protocols based on what we believe is in the best interest of our associates and our company,” a TJX spokesperson said in a statement.

Last week, the company said it would require its office workers to receive COVID-19 booster shots as they become eligible.

TJX, the fifth-largest employer in the region, has 4,175 employees in Central Massachusetts, according to figures provided to the WBJ Research Department. The company has 320,000 employees worldwide.
