Of the 20 highest-paid state employees in Massachusetts, nine are employed by UMass Chan Medical School, according to data from the state’s Office of the Comptroller compiled by the WBJ Research Department.
Dr. Michael Collins, chancellor & senior vice president of health sciences at UMass Chan, tops the list of the highest paid state-employees in the region with $1,289,996 in total earnings for 2022.
UMass Chan dean, provost & executive deputy chancellor Dr. Terrence Flotte came second on the list with annual compensation of $1,139,628 for 2022.
The highest-paid non-UMass Chan employee was Frank Martin, head coach of men's basketball for University of Massachusetts Athletics, whose total annual compensation came in at $1,133,846. No other state employees had total compensation over $1 million, according to the data.
The other UMass Chan employees among the top 20 highest-paid state employees for 2022 were Michael Green, vice provost for strategic research initiatives, who made $846,549, Partha Chakrabarti, executive vice chancellor for innovation and business development, with $669,091 in total compensation, John Lindstedt, executive vice chancellor of administration and finance, who earned $623,860, Lisa Colombo, executive vice chancellor for ForHealth Consulting, with $622,732 in compensation, Kenneth Rock, chair & professor of pathology, who earned $603,997, Mireli Fino, executive vice chancellor of MassBiologics, with compensation of $569,233, and Mark Klempner, executive vice chancellor emeritus, who was paid $549,742.
