UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester has agreed with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington to create a new quantitative science research hub.
The new research hub will be an outgrowth of the UMass Chan-Lahey regional campus established in December 2022, which received approval from the New England Commission of Higher Education in January. Its first class of medical students will begin its studies come August, according to the research hub press release on Thursday.
The agreement for the research center includes the creation of Lahey’s Institute for Healthcare Delivery Science, which will be designed to promote advances in digital medicine, population health, and healthcare delivery. Additionally, the agreement means Lahey is now a full partner in the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science, a center working to enhance health and health care delivery via collaborations with the community and various partners.
“The Medical School’s partnership with Lahey will offer clinical and population scientists, faculty and medical students the opportunity to leverage the expertise and clinical data of both institutions to more deeply engage in innovative research that addresses the health care needs of the regional campus and its surrounding community,” Dr. Terence Flotte, executive deputy chancellor and provost of UMass Chan, said in the release.
