UMass Memorial Health Care President and CEO Dr. Eric Dickson has been named the new chair of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association, the Boston hospital advocacy nonprofit announced Friday.

Dickson said his priorities will include advancing the association's Caring for the Caregiver initiative and its work to address social determinants of health and other healthcare disparities among Massachusetts residents.

Dickson has led UMass Memorial, the largest employer in Central Massachusetts, since 2013. His tenure during the coronavirus pandemic has included overseeing a field hospital at Worcester's DCU Center, supporting racial equality movements, and advocating for healthcare workers during the public health crisis. He has also volunteered to work at the hospital system's coronavirus care centers and, with his wife, Cathy Dickson, an emergency medicine physician, donated his salary for much of last year to the UMass Emergency Assistance Support for Employees Fund.

He succeeds as board chair Jody White, the president and CEO of Lowell General Hospital and Circle Health.
