United Way of North Central Mass. set up a COVID-19 relief fund for those impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the organization announced in a press release on Monday.

The Stand United Fund will disperse money to area nonprofits that work with families who have lost income or who are struggling with childcare issues as a result of COVID-19 school and business closures. The money is intended to help families, as well as to ensure that North Central Mass. nonprofits are able to continue their typical operations, United Way said in a press release.

Grants will also be made available for families struggling to cover basic food, childcare or housing needs.

United Way did not immediately confirm how much money has been raised and/or allocated to the fund. Donations may be made online or by texting COVIDHELP to 50511.
