More Information

Outstanding Women in Business is Worcester Business Journal’s most selective award. While other honors like 40 Under Forty or Best of Business generate plenty of buzz, the 66 women who have been given the OWIB award in its 11 years are members of our most exclusive group, as typically only 10-15% of nominees each year are selected. This year, WBJ received 65 nominations for 45 nominees.

To even be nominated by one of their peers, employees or managers, each of this year's 65 nominees must have achieved at least one notable success over the course of their careers. In rating each of the nominees, the OWIB judges will weigh their impact on the business world as well as in their community. Nearly all of the nominees will have an entire list of accomplishments in both these realms, which would more than justify their selection into this august group.

But one factor above all is what elevates the OWIB winners from the rest of the nominees: Mentoring other women, either directly or indirectly. All of the women in the following pages – just like the 60 other OWIB winners before them – have achieved that career level where they can impart wisdom on other female professionals through both advice and by setting an example, lifting up other women as the fight for equality in the workplace and on payrolls rages on.

In addition to learning in these stories all about what this year’s Outstanding Women in Business have achieved, we invite you to come to WBJ’s luncheon event on Nov. 15 at Tuckerman Hall in Worcester. Each WBJ event has its own flavor, and OWIB is our most intimate and inspiration event, a small-ish gathering celebrating the success of six amazing women and discussing ways to continue the fight for the future.
