Worcester Academy has received a $20-million donation from commercial real estate developer and businessman Ron Capozzoli Sr. of Florida.

The funds will be used to revitalize facilities and provide buildings designed to take the Academy into its third century, according to a Wednesday press release. In addition, $1 million will be directed to the Capozzoli family endowed scholarship fund at Worcester Academy.

The Academy will honor Capozzoli with the naming of a new recreation and athletic complex planned at the former site of Saint Vincent’s Hospital on Providence Street. Plans for the complex will be revealed in the fall. Also, The Megaron at the academy, a student center, will be renamed The Capozzoli Family Megaron.

“I experienced the best days of my life at Worcester Academy,” Capozzoli, who graduated from Worcester Academy in 1949, said in the press release.

CORRECTION: A previous headline incorrectly said the $20-million gift was the largest in Worcester Academy's history. The donation was not the largest in its history, but was among the largest in its history.
