Worcester nonprofit Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance has been awarded $2.6 million by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fight youth homelessness in Worcester County.

The funding was awarded through HUD’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program to support a wide range of housing programs including rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, transitional housing, and host homes, according to a HUD press release on Monday.

“This initiative provides us with the ability to start to take action to address these inequities and ensure that no youth is without a home. We look forward to working with our federal, state, local and community partners over the next several months to develop a comprehensive plan putting the voice of youth first ensuring they are leading our planning process. They are the ones who will inform us on what works,” said Leah Bradley, CEO of the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance, in the press release.

The HUD program awarded a total of $83.7 million to organizations in 17 communities in 14 states, including six rural communities.

In Massachusetts, organizations in Lynn received $2.4 million and in Barnstable County on Cape Cod received $1.4 million.

CMHA is a 501(c)(3) organization with $2.7 million in assets and $15,481,374 in annual income as of June 30, 2020 according to Guidestar by Candid.
