The Worcester Telegram and Gazette has named Michael McDermott, managing editor of the Providence Journal, as its new executive editor, according to a Tuesday Telegram & Gazette article.

McDermott was managing editor at the Providence Journal for five years. He has worked for the paper since 1996, prior to which he worked for the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, according to LinkedIn.

He will replace Dave Nordman, who stepped down in May after working for the paper since 1995.

McDermott will assume his new role by the end of July.

Both the Telegram and Gazette and Providence Journal are owned by publishing giant Gannett, which is headquartered in Virginia.
