The Chinese manufacturer WuXi Biologics, which is building a facility at The Reactory biomanufacturing campus on Belmont Street, was approved for a 5,000-square-foot expansion by the Worcester Planning Board on Wednesday night.

The plan will enlarge the proposed facility from two stories to four stories, reconfigure the entrance, and add 38 parking spaces, as well as electric vehicle charging stations.

Alterations will allow WuXi to provide late-stage clinical production and commercial manufacturing, matching the changing biopharma field, as more of the company’s clients require U.S.-made products, said Mark Borenstein, an attorney from Worcester law firm Bowditch & Dewery representing WuXi, in the meeting.

Construction of WuXi’s $60-million, 107,000 square-foot biomanufacturing facility commenced in the summer of 2020.
