UMass Memorial Medical Center announced that its Facebook page was recently awarded the top prize in its category by the New England Society for Healthcare Communications. The planning and execution of the page's launch earned a Gold Lamplighter award in the Social/New Media Campaign, Produced In-House category at a recent ceremony.
UMass Memorial's Facebook page was developed by the marketing and communications department and the medical center's Patient and Family Advisory Counsel and launched in September 2011. Visitors of the page can read the latest news, sign up for health programs and events, connect with other patients or post their own care stories and experiences. The page also provides updates on health news and trends, health-related contests and quizzes, and access to medical experts in the region.
"We look at our Facebook page as a valuable health resource, not only to our current patients and staff, but to all of Central Massachusetts," said Rhian Gregory, senior director of marketing and communications at UMass Memorial. "Facebook is one more way for our community to directly engage with us."
The 2012 competition included 300 entries from more than 85 organizations throughout the area.
