Wuhu Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co., Ltd. (Xinxing), a Chinese producer of carbon products and steel pipes, has contracted with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to supply a new rod outlet (shown) for its plant in Wuhu City.

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, with a facility in Worcester, has made a deal to supply a Chinese firm's new plant with a new rod outlet.

Siemens will design core components of the new rod outlet -- which is the part of a steel mill that makes steel rods to be coiled and thinned down to be wire -- to Wuhu Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co. Ltd. (Xinxing), a Chinese company that, according to Siemens, produces 2.6-million tons per year of iron pipes and fittings, as well as steel pipes and other parts.

According to a statement from Siemens, which has operations worldwide, the new equipment will enable Xinxing to enter the high quality and specialty steel markets, expanding its portfolio to include rod products ranging in size from 5 millimeters to 22 millimeters in diameter. The project, in Wuhu City, is expected to start this year.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
