Kennedy Center, UMass Affiliate Program Begins

The Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center of Worcester and a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School have launched a program designed to change how patients connect with their local community health center.

The affiliate, UHealthSolutions, said the project will improve access to primary and preventive care, enhance the patient experience, improve scheduling efficiency and decrease hold times and dropping of inbound calls.

The program has been underway since October. It follows an announcement earlier this year of a plan for the two organizations to collaborate on a suite of services that address the needs of community-based health care organizations.

"This initiative has been many months in the making," said Toni McGuire, president and CEO of the Kennedy center. "We believe the project, when fully implemented, will help improve access to care for our patients and help the health center as we manage the anticipated growth that will result from continued health care reform at the state and federal levels."
