MassDiGI Awarded $25K For Education Series

Worcester-based Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGI) at Becker College received a $25,000 grant to expand high school participation in its annual MassDiGI Game Challenge, and to launch a series of workshops focused on game development.

The ESA Foundation (ESAF), which supports projects that engage youth in the interactive entertainment industry, awarded the grant. ESAF Vice President Jenny Lai recognized MassDiGI’s efforts to teach students the skills required for today’s economy through programs like the annual Game Challenge, and MassDiGI 101 — the workshop series MassDiGI will launch with the grant money.

“Games design programs such as the MassDiGI Game Challenge and MassDiGI 101 open new doors for students and prepare them to be the technological leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” Lai said in a statement.

Launched in 2011, MassDiGI provides educational programs to students interested in the gaming industry statewide. MassDiGI Executive Director Timothy Loew said the ESAF grant “will allow us to connect with more young people in more places around Massachusetts and New England.”
