Work begins on $44M Hudson senior living facility

Site work has begun for a senior living facility in Hudson with 147 total units.
The $44-million project, Sage Life at Bay Village Hudson, will include 86 assisted living apartments and 61 independent living apartments.
The site sits at a high-traffic and high-visibility intersection where the Route 85 connector to I-495 meets Washington Street. Across the street is a Stop & Shop, with a Walgreens and Ninety-Nine restaurant on other ends of the intersection. Hudson Towne Center, anchored by a Shaw's, Petco and Dollar Tree, stands just up Washington Street, and a Walmart Supercenter is just down the road in the other direction.
The site, which was most recently used as a residence, has been missing from retail growth along the corridor until now. The Walgreens has been open for roughly a decade, and the Walmart opened in the mid-1990s, and the larger retail plazas have been around even longer.
The 163,000 square-foot Sage Life project is being developed by GSX Ventures of Maryland. The company has developed a senior living project in Amherst and student housing in Providence.
Pennsylvania-based Sage Life has residential communities in Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
"We've always liked Boston a lot, loved the market. We're using Hudson as the first community in the New England region for us," said Kelly Cook Andress, the founder and president of Sage Life. "We're really thrilled to be in Hudson."
The facility is expected to employ around 80 people when it opens in March or April of 2020. It will include underground parking for residents.
Andress said the company was attracted to Hudson for its attractive downtown and new dining and shopping options there and in Marlborough. The site worked well, she said, for both the company, which was looking for an easily accessible site, and for the town, which was looking for a use that wouldn't add too much more traffic to the Route 85 area.
