Oriol Health Care has hired two firms to design and construct a three-story medical office building at its Boyden Road campus in Holden, according to Boston-based Margulies Perruzzi Architects, one of the two firms.
The 36,000-square-foot building will house a family medical practice and other providers, according to Margulies, which is working with Worcester-based Cutler Associates on the project.
The estimated $5.5 million office building will be part of an ongoing renovation to Oriol's Holden campus, where ground has recently been broken on a $16.6 million rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility, according to Debby Westerback, director of community relations for Oriol.
Patients will be moved from the Wachusett Extended Care Facility (formerly Holden Hospital) to the nursing facility once it is completed. Westerback said Oriol is still trying to figure out what to do with the circa-1920s Wachusett facility once it is vacated.
Oriol also hopes to build an assisted living facility on the campus later. The company plans to continue to use its medical arts building on the campus. Oriol also has facilities in West Boylston.
