2013 40 Under Forty: Bob Waitt

Waitt

TITLE: President, Albright Technologies

COMPANY LOCATION: Leominster

RESIDENCE:  Cambridge

FAVORITE MOVIE: “Good Will Hunting”

FAVORITE BOOK: “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:I started at Albright Technologies close to 13 years ago at 15, working a part-time job in the founder’s garage in Sterling. I spent my early days doing everything from sweeping floors to molding parts. When I received my bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Boston University in 2006, I was offered a permanent position at Albright and accepted. I have held a lot of positions at Albright throughout the years, including: machinist, molder, toolmaker, project engineer and operations manager. In 2008, I was promoted to vice president of business development. Last January, the previous president and CEO stepped down and I was appointed to succeed him.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: I volunteer at the Cambridge Community Center and I’m also a student mentor through the Boston University Alumni Association. We as a company have also been involved with helping the First Robotics Program at Clinton High School. We’re also proud to give to many local charities and causes, including Leominster Little League, Leominster Youth Basketball, Leominster Knights of Columbus, Ginny’s Helping Hand, Autism Speaks, Smile Train, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress.

BIGGEST SUCCESS: I would say my biggest success has been choosing to work at Albright after graduating from college and working my way up to become president and CEO. During my journey, there have been a lot of ups and downs, and I’m grateful that I have been surrounded by such a great group of mentors and colleagues that have helped me along the way. We have a great group of talented employees and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the team.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: From a professional standpoint, our biggest challenge is scaling up our business model to offer services to more customers. With our target market being the healthcare industry, our services can really help a wide variety of companies to develop their products faster and, in effect, help a large number of people around the world.

MENTORS: I have had the privilege of having a lot of great mentors who have helped me along the way. Thank you to my parents, as well as David Comeau, John Casali, Bill Bird, Randy Barko, Dan DePlanche and Steve Klein.

HIDDEN TALENT:I can paint landscapes like Bob Ross.
