2013 40 Under Forty: Melissa A. Gleick

Gleick

Title: Associate Attorney, Estate Preservation Law Offices

Company location: Worcester

Residence: Hubbardston

Favorite movie: Any movie in the Harry Potter series. I find the movies fun, inspired and full of lessons. I can't wait to share them with my daughter when she is old enough.

Favorite book: Also, any book inthe Harry Potter series.

Career highlights: During my final year of law school, I was asked to serve as a superior court law clerk, which is a difficult position to secure. After my first year of clerking, the chief justice invited me to stay another year as a supervisor to incoming law clerks.

Another accomplishment that comes to mind — and the one that is the most important to me — is my integration of pet trust planning into our firm's practice. As an animal lover and owner, this practice area is very important to me and I wanted to make it available to our clients as an estate planning tool.

Community involvement: In the past, I served on the human rights committee at the Arc of Opportunity in Fitchburg. Now I volunteer with Girls Inc. in Worcester. I also recently acquired a puppy that I intend to train as a therapy dog. I am hoping to spend time each week at some of the local nursing homes visiting the elderly.

Biggest success: Becoming a mother to my beautiful and intelligent daughter Morgan. And from a business standpoint, finding a job that I absolutely love. Estate Preservation Law Offices is a wonderful place to work and I look forward to going to the office every day and working with our clients.

Biggest challenge: Being a good mother and working full time. Every working parent out there knows what a challenge it can be to balance work and family.

Mentors: My mother has always been my best mentor and role model. She is my best friend. She is successful and beautiful, inside and out. We have always been close and we talk frequently. She is a wonderful listener and has always guided me with wisdom and grace in both professional and personal matters.

Hidden talents: I am a great cook! As busy as the workweek can be, most days I take the time to cook a full meal for my family. I have a passion for food and find cooking to be therapeutic at the end of a long day.
