Southbridge Firm Buys Ex-DPW Building

A Southbridge office equipment company said it has bought the town’s former public works building and plans to move into it in five months after remodeling the site.

Expert Laser Services said it completed the purchase of the building, located at 62 Pleasant St., on Thursday. The building contains about 12,000 square feet of space, according company spokesman Bob Chernisky. He said the purchase price for the property was $130,000, which doesn’t include remodeling costs.

Expert Laser, an employee-owned company, is expecting steady growth “and this older structure is a good fit for us,” said Mike Charpentier, company president. The 23-year-old company has been operating out of rented space at 1 North St. Charpentier said the landlord, the Center of Hope Foundation, needs the space on North Street and offered a “significant investment” to help renovate the now-empty public works building.

Expert Laser said the remodeling work will begin immediately.
