Hospital sees savings in energy-efficiency upgrade

Gardner-based Heywood Hospital said earlier this week that it will save more than $29,000 a year by upgrading to energy-efficient equipment.

The hospital said it also received a $64,320 rebate through the utility Unitil for the $228,000 project, which upgraded 13 pieces of equipment in the kitchen and other areas.

Part of the project included a custom exhaust system that captures heat from the kitchen and reuses it to heat the building.

“This was a great project for the hospital. It not only created a more comfortable work environment for our employees, but as an added bonus it will save us money,” said Mike Grimmer, vice president of support services at the hospital.
