Accolades & Honors

Twenty-five attorneys at Worcester-based Mirick O'Connell were named Massachusetts Super Lawyers for 2014; and eight were named Massachusetts Rising Stars by Super Lawyers. In addition, two of the firm's lawyers were named Top Lawyers for the year. In addition to be named Super Lawyers for 2014, John Mirick was selected as one of the Top 100 Super Lawyers in Massachusetts, and Joan Vorster was selected as one of the Top 50 Women Super Lawyers in the state. Super Lawyers — a Thomson Reuters business — is a rating service of lawyers from more than 70 areas of practice.

Worcester Bravehearts' General Manager Dave Peterson was named 2014 Executive of the Year by the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Clinton-based commercial real estate developer Auburn Industrial Development Corp. held a tribute to the late Ben Masterman, founder of Masterman's in Auburn, a safety and industrial supply company. Masterman's is the group's largest and longest-tenured tenant. The tribute was part of a Tenant Appreciation Day.

The Willows at Worcester restaurant services team — including Director of Restaurant and Catering Services Chris Langevin, Brett Zawielski, and Executive Chef Kenrick Haywood — won first place in the Best of the Best Chefs Competition from the Massachusetts Health Council gala in Boston. The Willows is part of Salmon Health and Retirement, based in Milford.

Mark Fantasia, a vice president and financial advisor at Fitchburg-based Workers' Credit Union, earned the 2013 Silver Pacesetter Award as a top-producing registered representative from CUSO Financial Services.

Doug Scott, a Natick High School science teacher, was honored as The 2014 Teacher of the Year at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon Massachusetts at a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Summit. His school received $5,000 to be used for STEM education. Finalists, which included Jason Demen from Blanchard Memorial School of Boxborough and Jeremy Mularella of Oak Middle School in Shrewsbury, each won $1,000 for their schools.

Worcester-based Commerce Bank ranked as a leading Small Business Administration (SBA) lender to small businesses in Worcester County for SBA's 2014 fiscal year, based on loan volume data.

Clark University's Graduate School of Management was chosen by The Princeton Review to be included in the 2015 edition of The Best 296 Business Schools.
