Fed’s ‘Beige Book’ survey rosy

Consumer spending, manufacturing and overall employment figures were strong in October and November, the Federal Reserve reported Wednesday in its latest report of business conditions around the country.

The report, which covers the period through Nov. 24, will help drive the central bank’s final policymaking session of the year Dec. 16 and 17.

Demand for high-tech products is gaining steadily in the Boston, San Francisco and Dallas regions, the Fed found. Positive hiring trends highlighted in the survey include software and information technology jobs at New England companies.

Upticks in consumer spending were tied to, among other factors, falling gasoline prices at pumps across the U.S.

The report, often referred to as the “Beige Book,” can be viewed here.
