Staples survey shows small-business optimism

The majority of small business leaders, 87 percent, are optimistic about the year ahead, according to a recent Staples’ small business survey conducted online by Research Now.

The survey also showed that the top three goals among small businesses for 2015 are increasing revenue, driving profits, and gaining more customers. Companies surveyed said their top tactics to achieve their goals would be promotional marketing, better organization, and software upgrades.

Small business leaders around the country who answered the survey also said they want to be rewarded for their loyalty, with nearly 80 percent wanting to use vendors that offer rewards and points that can be used toward future purchases.

Other results from the survey, conducted from Jan. 6 to Feb. 3 among 999 small-business leaders, include: Nearly half of small businesses want to stop spending money on ineffective marketing and promotional campaigns; and 29 percent said they want to give their employees a raise this year. Also, more than a third of respondents said they wanted want to grow their business by expanding their product line or services.
