Baker wants to see Olympic plan by mid-June

An outside consultant could be hired "very shortly" to assist Gov. Charlie Baker and House and Senate leaders with their review of a Boston Olympic bid, adding to the governor's desire to see Boston 2024 produce a more detailed proposal for venues and costs soon.

"I just think there's a certain timeframe here. The draft needs to be into the International Olympic Committee by September with a final report in by January. And if you just work yourself backwards on that it's pretty clear there needs to be a pretty detailed game plan that people can start vetting and reviewing by early June, mid-June at the latest," Baker told reporters Thursday.

The Boston Globe reported Thursday that Baker expressed his frustration during a private meeting with top donors over the amount of time it has taken Boston 2024 to present for public review a more comprehensive plan for hosting 2024 summer Olympics.

Olympic organizers said they are working under the same time frame as that outlined by the governor, and plan to have a proposal ready for public review in June.

Baker, who said he plans to meet as soon as next week with the group No Boston Olympics, said he would refrain from commenting on his personal opinion of the Olympics until the detailed proposal is released.

"I'm looking forward to engaging in debate on the actual plan," he said.

A committee assembled by House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg and Baker have been reviewing applicants to be the state's Olympic consultant, a contract worth up to $250,000, and Baker said, "We're going to have that decision done very shortly."
