Survey: Economy a big worry for small businesses
A recent survey has found that while the majority of small business owners in the country are bullish on their own prospects for the remainder of the year, they have major concerns about the overall economy.
The U.S. Small Business Economic and Political Sentiment Survey conducted by the Endurance International Group based in Burlington found that while 71 percent of small business owners have a positive outlook about their business, only 31 percent had a positive outlook on the overall economy. Over half of those surveyed cited “health of the overall economy” as a top concern.
The survey also delved into the political, finding that 72 percent of those surveyed did not feel that the current group of presidential candidates addressed issues pertinent to small businesses.
"With global stock market volatility and general economic unease around the world, small business owners are looking for our leaders in Washington to prioritize small business issues, and the Presidential candidates should take note," Endurance CEO and founder Hari Ravichandran said in a statement. "Small businesses don't feel their needs are being adequately addressed. It is critically important that we encourage their growth and innovation."
The survey was conducted between Aug. 24 and 31 and surveyed 1,263 U.S. small business owners, all of whom use Endurance's cloud platform for business. For purposes of this survey, small businesses are defined as employing 10 or fewer people on either a full-time or part-time basis.
