Central Mass. Girl Scouts hold to $4 a box

Bucking a national trend of climbing prices, the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts have decided to maintain $4 a box for the popular product linked to the organization’s financial literacy program.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) recently announced a price increase to $5 a box this year, marking the first price increase in eight years, according to the organization. The decision was made to allow more members to participate in leadership programs, according to a release from the GSEM.
However, the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) decided to maintain their $4 a box price, as each of the 112 local councils nationwide are able to set their price based on their market, according to Dana Carnegie, community relations manager for GSCWM.
The program continues to be a strong financial literacy program for Girl Scouts, she said.
“From making change to tracking revenues, girls practice the basics of money management and learn how to earn what they spend and stay on budget. The five skills girls learn are goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics,” Carnegie said.
