The 120th running of the Boston Marathon will take place on Monday and is set to bring in nearly $200 million in spending to Massachusetts.

The financial impact estimate for the marathon was created by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) and covers everything from charity donations gathered by those running ($28 million) to the estimated spending by the over 30,000 runners and their guests ($103.3 million).

“The Boston Marathon is our region’s largest, most beloved and most significant special event, and traditionally it marks the start of our region’s tourist season,” GBCVB President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo said in a statement.

For 2016, there will be over 30,000 official participants, including more than 6,400 runners from 98 countries outside the United States. In addition, more than 1,200 members of the media from more than 200 outlets are expected to cover the Boston Marathon, bringing additional media attention to the region. The 2015 Boston Marathon generated $181.9 million and had an entry field of 30,251 athletes.

The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest consecutively run marathon and ranks as one of the world’s most prestigious road racing events.
