Annual Worcester jobs growth among strongest in state

Greater Worcester was among the four regions that saw the largest job gains between November 2015 and November 2016, according to new data released Tuesday by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD).

The Worcester labor market had an unadjusted unemployment rate of 2.8 percent last month, down from 4.7 percent a year earlier. That puts Worcester third in dwindling unemployment, behind the Taunton-Middleboro-Norton and Barnstable areas, and ahead of the Haverhill-Newburyport-Amesbury region.

Last week, the EOLWD estimated the statewide adjusted unemployment rate was 2.9 percent, down from 4.9 percent in November 2015. Massachusetts saw the largest drop in unemployment among all U.S. states between November 2015 and November 2016, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
