Marlborough defense contractor Raytheon this week announced it secured two new military contracts worth a total of $69 million.

The first contract is a $32-million U.S. Navy deal for encryption devices that keep military tactical data safe across air, surface, subsurface and ground assets. The device, called the Link Level Communication Security 7M encryptor, provides better security for the Link 22 tactical radio system, which is used by the U.S. military and its allies. The LLC 7M is the only device that has received the National Security Agency’s Type 1 certification for information classified Secret level or below in the Link 22 environment.

It is being developed as part of a NATO project that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom as partners. The contract includes a five-year base performance period, with an additional five year option that could bring its total value to $63 million.

Raytheon’s second contract is with the U.S. Air Force, which awarded the company $37 million to demonstrate new satellite communications technology to link tactical users with military leaders in contested environments.

Under the contract, which will support efforts of the Protected Tactical Services Field Demonstration program managed by the Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles Air Force Base, Raytheon will develop and test hardware that will eventually replace existing satellite communication terminals. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2020 and will be performed in Marlborough.
