Holy Cross names new VP of student affairs

Courtesy/Holy Cross Michele Murray will take over as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at the College of the Holy Cross in July.

The College of the Holy Cross has named Michele Murray as its next vice president for student affairs and dean of students, the college announced Tuesday.

Murray, who holds a doctorate in education policy and leadership in higher education from the University of Maryland, joins Holy Cross from Seattle University, where she was vice president of the division of student development for about 11 years. She will start July 17 and succeeds Jacqueline Peterson, who is retiring after a 20-year career at Holy Cross.

Murray has a 21-year career in Jesuit higher education, said Philip Boroughs, Holy Cross’ president. Before moving to Seattle, she worked as director of leadership and new student programs at Loyola College in Maryland. In Seattle, Murray served as a member of the faculty, where she taught undergraduate and graduate classes in leadership and student development.

In addition to her doctorate, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a master’s in higher education and student affairs administration from the University of Vermont. She will report directly to Boroughs.
