FLEXcon sponsoring flexographic nonprofit

The FLEXcon coater group includes (from left) Richard Jakubowski, Paul Wunderlich and Janet Zywiec.

FLEXcon said Tuesday it is sponsoring a flexographic training nonprofit in order to support workforce development in what it said is a growing market.

The Spencer adhesives maker is now a sponsor of Flexographic Tech, a Minnesota nonprofit providing flexographic press operator training to students from across the country. Demand for trained print operators is growing as the $200-billion industry blooms and current operators near retirement age, according to FLEXcon.

Flexo printers need to be properly trained to operate the presses, which are faster and more efficient than they've ever been and require using several ink and drying technologies, according to FLEXcon.

"Our sponsorship of Flexographic Tech allows us to give back to the printing community by enabling a training resource that will directly contribute to closing the skills gap within the Flexographic printing industry," said Jeff Goulette, sales representative at FLEXcon.
