Utility equipment supplier relocates Northeast HQ to Amazon's Milford facility

Google Illinois-based Anixter will occupy half of this building on Industrial Road in Milford.

Anixter, an Illinois-based global supplier of communication and security products, is relocating its Northeast facility from Delaware to Milford.

The company’s plans to occupy 102,000 square feet of a building in an industrial park in Milford were approved by the town’s Planning Board last week.

The company, which provides equipment to the utility and security industry, will operate the Milford location as a warehouse for utility providers -- including Eversource and National Grid -- in the Northeast.

It will occupy about half of the building. The other half is occupied by Amazon as a distribution warehouse.

At last week’s meeting, Peter Bemis of Southborough’s Engineering Design Consultants, hired to develop plans for Anixter, said Amazon was looking to occupy the entire building, but opted to leave half of the building vacant, allowing Anixter to step in.

About $100 million worth of inventory will be stored at this site and 31 employees will work at this location, Bemis said.

“They like this location,” Bemis said. ”They very much want to be here.”

The company is now one of the largest in Milford, with nearly $8 billion in sales last year.
