A couple with scrap metal recycling operations in Everett and New Hampshire have opened a new facility in Worcester.

Scrap-It/Minichiello Bros Inc. opened on Fremont Street in South Worcester, having been drawn to the city's central location and growth potential, the company said last Thursday.

The company bought the former Leo Balcewicz Enterprises scrap yard at 103 Fremont St. last October for $100 and then an adjacent building at 100 Fremont St. for $100,000 last December, and spent about eight months repairing both properties.

The yard has opened with eight employees and plans to add more soon.

Minichiello Bros. Inc. opened in 1957 and later expanded with Scrap-It, a recycling operation. Its corporate office is in Lowell.
